Arizonans have faced significant gun violence tragedies. On January 8, 2011, Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and 18 other people were shot in a mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona. Six people were killed, including a 9-year-old girl. Several were left seriously wounded, including Giffords. Further, worshippers at a Buddhist Temple in Waddel, Arizona came under attack in a mass shooting on August 10, 1991. Nine people were killed, including 6 monks.

A deadly loophole allows guns to be sold between a seller and a buyer who don’t know each other – and no background check is required. Arizona can close this “stranger-to-stranger” loophole and expand background checks to prevent dangerous people from buying guns.
